Shirin Karsan received her Masters in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Center for Bioethics. Her research interest is in the cultural and religious perspectives in the ethics of emerging biotechnologies. She was awarded a Fulbright Grant to conduct research for a year in Al Ain, UAE, at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University. She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Thomas Jefferson University with a B.S. in Diagnostic Imaging. She has presented at the MESA conference, the 3rd International Conference on Islam and Bioethics, The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Youth Camp, the Kenexa World Conference, and at the MRI Convention. Additionally, she has published three original journal articles. She is fluent in English and Gujarati, and conversationally capable in French, Urdu, Hindi, and basic Arabic. She is currently the special projects manager in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science & Health Systems at Drexel University, where she directs the local and international weServe program, which enables students to apply their education via innovative solutions, for the immediate benefit of underrepresented and underserved communities through service learning experiences.
